Charlotte senior libero Carly Romberg was selected as the Atlantic 10 Libero of the Year for the second straight season and her freshman teammate Leah Leventhal was named to the All-Rookie Team in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches.

In that same vote, Saint Louis outside hitter Sammi McCloud has been named the 2008 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, while teammate Whitney Roth earned Setter of the Year honors.

Setter Alyssa Valentine of George Washington was tabbed Rookie of the Year and Saint Louis coach Anne Kordes was named Coach of the Year. Additionally, George Washington senior libero Maggie Wright was named Student-Athlete of the Year in voting by the Conference's sports information directors.

McCloud is the first Saint Louis student-athlete to earn Player of the Year honors. She enters this week's Atlantic 10 Championship (Nov. 21-23) second in kills per game (3.48) and fifth in hitting percentage (.306). A native of Columbia, Ill., the junior was named the A-10 Player of the Week four times this season and honored as the AVCA National Player of the Week on Sept. 9. McCloud is a two-time All-Conference honoree after being named to the first-team last season.

Roth earns Setter of the Year honors for the second straight season and led the Billikens to the top-seed in the A-10 Championship. The junior from Louisville, Ky., averages 11.22 assists per game - tops in the Conference - and ranks second with 11.49 assists per game in league play.

Joining McCloud and Roth on the All-Conference first-team are Saint Louis teammates Bridget Fonke and Sally Warning; Bethany Akerhielm and Lindsay Fletemier of Dayton; and Temple's Yun Yi Zhang.

Romberg earns her second consecutive Libero of the Year award (in as many years as the league has had such an award) after leading the league in digs with 5.10 per game. Romberg earned A-10 Player of the Week honors on Nov. 17 and her 571 digs eclipsed the program's single-season record, which she set last season. The Aurora, Colo., native has 2,017 career digs, tops in Charlotte history.

Along with Romberg, the All-Conference second-team is comprised of Fordham's Christi Griffiths and Katie Wells; Leah Hill and Liz Moult of George Washington; and Xavier's Kelly Ruth and Hillary Otte.

Valentine enjoyed an outstanding rookie season at George Washington, leading the Colonials to the No. 3 seed in the A-10 Championship. The setter from Tustin, Calif., garnered a league-high six Rookie of the Week honors and led all rookies with a 9.38 assist average, which ranks fifth in the A-10.

Valentine is joined on the All-Rookie team by Leah Leventhal of Charlotte; Dayton's Valerie Akerhielm; Liz Homan and Tricia Mullen of Duquesne; Fordham's Megan Arend; Kayla Wilson of Rhode Island; and Xavier's Kathryn Traut.

Wright earns Student-Athlete of the Year honors after leading George Washington in digs with 4.00 per set and helping the Colonials capture the East Division regular season title. A team co-captain, the Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., native has started all 109 sets for GW and ranks third on the team in both service aces (19) and assists (28). She sports a 3.96 grade point average as a pre-health major and earned 2008 ESPN The Magazine first-team All-District honors.

Along with Wright, the Academic All-Conference volleyball team consists of teammates Lauren Kaminsky and Kelly Ruth of Xavier; La Salle's Christa Dominick; Whitney Behrens of Saint Louis; Temple's Jackie Morrison and Carly Romberg of Charlotte.

Kordes is in her fifth season as head coach at Saint Louis and has compiled a 103-57 overall record. She led the Billikens to the A-10 regular-season title after posting a perfect 13-0 Conference record. Ranked No. 21 in the latest Bison/AVCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, Saint Louis' 24 wins are its most since 1996 and its current 16-match winning streak is tops in program annals. Kordes is a 1998 graduate of Louisville.
