Spivakovsky and Pillay ranked No. 15 in Southeast Region Rankings

Top Charlotte women's doubles pair had 9-2 fall campaign

Dec. 22, 2007

Charlotte, N.C. - Following a successful fall tournament season, the Charlotte 49ers women's tennis doubles pair of Ana Spivakovsky and Yudeshnee Pillay has been ranked No. 15 in the Southeast Region according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), which is the governing body of college tennis.

Spivakovsky and Pillay finished 9-2 in the fall season as a doubles pair, and should compete for Charlotte as the number-one doubles pair in the spring season.

Spivakovsky was the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year in 2007, finishing with a school-record 26 singles wins, while finishing 21-10 with partners Michelle Alexander and Ali Piacente. Individually, she was ranked at No. 95 nationally by the ITA, the first such ranking for a Charlotte 49er in the history of the program.

Pillay is a new addition to the Niners, following a successful two-year stint at the University of Auburn-Montgomery, where she was 52-3 overall in singles play and 50-4 in doubles play at the NAIA level. The Lady Senators were National Champions in each of the past two seasons, with Pillay playing a large role in their success.

Charlotte begins the spring season with a February 1 match-up at Furman at 5 p.m. in Greenville, S.C. Charlotte's first home match will be February 8, when the Niners host Winston-Salem State at 2:30 p.m.
