Skillman, N.J. - Charlotte's women's tennis team was recognized as a 2008 All-Academic Team and six student-athletes from the men's and women's teams were recognized individually as Scholar-Athletes recently by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
To qualify for the team award, the team grade point average (GPA) must be a 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale. Last year, Charlotte averaged a 3.56 as a team on the women's side.
"It is a great honor for our program to be recognized by the ITA for all of the hard work the girls put into their work in the classroom," said women's coach Michaela Gorman. "I am extremely proud of them."
Candace Cunningham, Koren Fleming, Ana Spivakovsky and Yana Stoeva were recognized individually from the women's side. Moritz Bernhoerster and Brad Clinard were recognized from the men's team.
Spivakovsky and Clinard were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic teams last spring.
"Moritz and Brad are solid students in tough curriculums," said men's coach Jim Boykin. "They are looking to get a demanding education and are not going the easy route. These kinds of students make the job easy for coaches as they make the most of their academic and athletic skills. I could not be more proud of them."
