Women's Tennis Begins 2007-08 Season at Wake Forest Fall Tournament

Roster Will Get Experience In Various Singles and Doubles Flights

Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team competes in its first competition of the 2007-2008 season at the Wake Forest Deacon Classic this weekend. All of the Niners will compete at the tournament, in different draws over the course of the three days.

Ana Spivakovsky, the reigning A-10 rookie of the year, will face off against Megan Fudge of Illinois to begin in the top flight of singles play. Flight two singles will see Charlotte's Yudeshnee Pillay take on Sierra Poske of Wake Forest. Charlotte's Koren Fleming takes on Marisa Lambropoulos of Illinois in flight three, with senior Michelle Alexander battling Emese Kardhordo of Richmond in flight four. Flight five will see Kimber Redfern taking on Wake Forest's Jenna Loeb. Yana Stoeva will play against Georgiana Smyser of Dartmouth in flight six and Candace Cunningham will take on Annie McCarthy of Illinois in flight seven.

Flight eight is a round robin event, with Charlotte's Gabi Vergara taking on Maggie Suydam of Dartmouth, Davidson's Molly Verlin and Ashley Mincey in three singles matches over the course of the weekend.

In doubles action, Charlotte's Spivakovsky and Pillay will take on the top doubles flight, with their opening match on Friday afternoon against the tandem of Shivani Dave and Marisa Lambropoulos of Illinois. Fleming and Alexander will be in the opposite bracket of flight one and will start against Emily Malvehy and Christian Tara of Wake Forest. Niners Cunningham and Redfern will compete in flight two doubles and start against Erin Clark and Maria Guerreiro of Indiana, while the Charlotte pair of Stoeva and Vergara will take on Maggie Suydam and Jesse Adler of Dartmouth on the other side of the flight-two bracket.
