CHARLOTTE - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team opens the 2001 fall season at the UNC Wilmington Invitational this weekend, September 22-24.

Head coach Terry Ann Zawacki-Woods enters her second season at the helm of the 49ers women's tennis program. She welcomes back four letterwinners and four newcomers to the roster this season.

The returning letterwinners are led by senior Lauren Hastings, who finished with a team-high 12 wins last season. Joining Hastings is senior Alice Hansen, who has played number one singles the past three years, junior Bailey Gainey, who finished second on the team with 11 wins last season, and Stacie Luders, who was part of Charlotte's number two doubles team last season.

Joining these four returners are four talented newcomers. Courtney Clifford, from Portsmouth, Ohio, Jana Cucciniello, from Humble, Texas, Jennifer Hatch from Snellville, Georgia, and Laura Swain, from Birmingham, Alabama round out the 49ers roster.

The team will play in five tournaments in the fall before beginning their dual match season in the spring. The fall season concludes with a flighted singles and doubles Conference USA Tournament hosted by TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, November 9-11.
