Three 49ers Earn All-Atlantic 10 Honors

Freshman Ana Spivakovsky became the first player in the program's history to be named league Rookie of the Year

Charlotte, NC - A school-record three members of the 49ers women's tennis team earned All-Atlantic 10 honors. Freshman Ana Spivakovsky was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year. Spivakovsky was named first-team All-Atlantic 10 as well. Seniors Ali Piacente and Kathy Robey were named second-team All-Atlantic 10. For the second straight season, Piacente was named to the Atlantic 10 academic all-conference team.

When Spivakovsky, Robey and Piacente were named All-Atlantic 10 it became the first time in school history that three players claimed all-league honors in the same season. The only other times that multiple players claimed all-league honors in the same season were in 1992 and 2006. In 1992, Farah Khursheed and Melissa Schladweiler were named All-Metro. Last season, Ofra Friedman and Ashleigh Murray were named All-Atlantic 10 and

Spivakovsky became the first player in the program's history to garner conference freshman of the year honors. In her first season with the 49ers, she won a school-record 26 singles matches at number one singles. In the Atlantic 10 championship, she went a perfect 4-0 at number one singles with straight sets wins over the 2007 A-10 Most Outstanding Performer Richmond's Pamela Duran and the 2006 A-10 Most Outstanding Performer Massachusetts' Michele Spiess. She also teamed with Piacente to form the 49ers top doubles team and they won 20 matches this season. They won nine of their last ten doubles matches.

Piacente won 13 singles matches this season mostly at number three singles. She finished her career with four straight season with double-figure singles wins. She defeated Massachusetts' Dasa Stanimirovic in her final collegiate match in the A-10 Championship. She finished her career with 63 singles wins which is the fifth highest total in school history. As a result of winning 20 doubles matches this season with Spivakovsky, she finished her career with 61 doubles wins which is the fifth highest total in school history.

Piacente has a 3.74 GPA in Art.

Robey finished tied for second on the team this season with 17 singles wins mostly at number two singles. She defeated La Salle's Lauren Perry, 6-0, 6-0, in the first round of the A-10 Championship. She finished her career as the program's all-time winningest player with 78 singles wins. She also teamed with Yana Stoeva and Candace Cunningham to win 17 doubles matches. She teamed with Cunningham to defeat doubles teams from La Salle and Duquesne in the A-10 Championship. She finished her career with 64 doubles wins which is the third highest total in school history.
