Women's Tennis Competes At C-USA Indoors

Four different 49ers posted wins on Friday.

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team began play at the Conference USA Indoor Championships Friday night at TCU. The 49ers netted four wins in singles play and one win in double play.

In flight A singles, Alice Hansen picked up a 0-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Molly Boutreis from Southern Miss. She then fell to Memphis' Monica Gonzalez-Gordo, 6-1, 6-1, in the second round.

Jana Cucciniello lost to Natalie Schwatz of South Florida, 6-3, 6-1. In the consolation bracket, she fell to Vicki Zolinsky of Saint Louis, 6-3, 6-2.

In flight B singles, Lauren Hastings got off to a slow start, falling to South Florida's Jamie Larson, 6-0, 6-3. She bounced back in the back draw, however, topping Olivia Berry of Southern Miss, 6-4, 6-3.

Jennifer Hatch defeated Louisville's Paige Eber in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. She wasn't able to repeat her success in the second round, losing to Patricia Kolendo of South Florida, 6-1, 6-1.

Courtney Clifford lost to Memphis' Rebecca Gardner, 7-5, 6-4. She came back in the back draw with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jessica Olson from Southern Miss.

In flight A doubles, Cucciniello and Hansen lost to Marquette's team of Jero Briseno and Annabelle Espinoza, 8-4.

In flight B, Hastings and Hasloff lost to Southern Miss' Berry and Boutreis, 9-8 (7-3). Clifford teamed with Laura Hughes of Memphis to fall to Saint Louis' team of Kristen Doyle and Amy O'Hansley, 8-4. They came back to defeat Sara Ann Harris and Jessica Olson, 8-4.
