WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The women's tennis team competed in the Southeast Regional championships last weekend hosted by Wake Forest University. Freshman Lindsay Morris won a qualifying match and advanced to the main draw. Also, sophomore Laura Swain won a match in the main draw.
Morris defeated Murray State's Jennifer Ward, 6-3, 6-1, in her first qualifying match. Then, she lost to Kentucky's Kacie Anson, 7-5, 64. She advanced to the main draw by a luck loser spot. She then lost to Duke's Julia Smith, 6-1, 6-2 in the main draw.
Swain defeated Coastal Carolina's Marie Matrika, 6-4, 6-1 in the main draw. Then, she lost to North Carolina's Marlene Mejia, 6-3, 6-0.
Freshman Ashleigh Murray lost her qualifying match to Tennessee Tech's Marina Tasheva, 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomore Jennifer Hatch lost her qualifying match to Winthrop's Renata Caceres, 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles action, the team of Murray and Swain defeated Murray State's Leeper and Spencer, 9-7. Then, they lost Duke's Adams and McCain, 8-0.
In other doubles action, Hatch and Morris lost to Davidson's Fillnow and Fillnow, 8-4.
