WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis competed in the Wake Forest Invitational this past weekend. This was the 49ers third tournament of the season. The 49ers return to Winston-Salem in a couple of weeks for the Southeast Region Championships.

In Flight A singles, Charlotte's Laura Swain defeated William & Mary's Sherbakov in the first round, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. She then lost to Georgia State's Forgacs in the next round, 7-5, 6-2. Then, she lost to William & Mary's Muth, 6-1, 6-1 in the backdraw. In her final match, she lost to Virginia's Stern, 6-3, 6-2.

In Flight A singles, Charlotte's Lindsay Morris lost to Virginia's Stern, 6-1, 6-1, in her first match. Then, she defeated Winthrop's Barreto, 6-3, 6-3 in the backdraw. In the backdraw finals, she lost to Virginia's James, 6-0, 6-0.

In Flight B singles, Charlotte's Ashleigh Murray lost to Virginia's Bruch, 6-2, 6-1. Then, she lost to Winthrop's Andrade, 6-2, 7-5. In her final match, she lost to Georgia State's Breiholtz, 6-1, 6-3.

In Flight B singles, Charlotte's Jennifer Hatch lost to William & Mary's Yang, 6-4, 6-1. In the backdraw, she lost to Georgia State's Breiholtz, 6-1, 6-1. Then, she defeated Appalachian State's Berger, 6-3, 6-2. She lost her final match to Appalachian State's Finkowska, 6-4, 1-6, 11-9.

In Flight C singles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford lost to Tennessee Tech's Obando, 6-4, 6-0. In the backdraw, she lost to Georgia State's Etienne, 6-2, 6-1. In her final match, she was losing to Appalachian State's Moody, 6-1, 5-0 before defaulting.

In Flight C singles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark lost to William & Mary's Partlow, 7-6, 6-4. In the backdraw, she defeated Appalachian State's Kirven, 6-1, 6-3. Then, she lost to Wake Forest's Schwartz, 6-3, 6-1. In her final match, she lost to Karine Etienne, 6-2, 6-3.

 

 

In Flight D singles, Charlotte's Megan Bullins lost to William & Mary's Reed, 6-3, 6-1. Then, she defeated Appalachian State's Hancock, 6-1, 6-4. In her final match, she lost to UNC Greensboro's Eutzler, 7-6, 6-2.

In Flight A doubles, Charlotte's Murray and Swain lost to UNC Greensboro's Peel and Orellana, 8-3. Then, they defeated William & Mary's Kamp and Sherbakov, 9-8 to reach the backdraw finals. The finals of the backdraw were not played since the team from Tennessee Tech withdrew.

In Flight B doubles, Charlotte's Hatch and Morris defeated Tennessee Tech's Russinova and Obando, 9-7. Then, they lost to Georgia State's Rivera and Mitchell, 8-5. Then, they defeated defeated Appalachian State's Atlenburger and Finkowska, 8-2. They lost to UNC Greensboro's LaCoste and Eutzler, 9-8.

In Flight B doubles, Charlotte's Clark and Bullins lost to Virginia's James and James, 8-0. Then, they lost to UNC Greensboro's LaCoste and Eutzler, 8-3.
