Monroeville, PA - The Charlotte 49ers (12-10) blanked Massachusetts, 4-0, to finish third in the Atlantic 10 Championships.
The 49ers won two doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Ana Spivakovsky and Ali Piacente defeated UMass' Michelle Spiess and Masha Pozar, 8-5. At number two doubles, Charlotte's Koren Fleming and Michelle Alexander defeated UMass' Dasa Stanimirovic and Stephanie Gimenez, 8-3. At number three doubles, Charlotte's Candace Cunningham and Kathy Robey had their match stopped against UMass' Maude Lecluyse and Laura Murillo.
The 49ers won three singles matches to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte's Spivakovsky defeated UMass' Spiess, 6-3, 6-3, for her school-record 26th singles win of the season. At number two singles, Charlotte's Robey was leading UMass' Pozar, 6-2, 4-4, when the match was stopped. Robey finished her career with a school-record 78 singles victories. At number three singles, Charlotte's Piacente finished her career with a straight sets 6-2, 6-1, win over UMass' Stanimirovic. At number four singles, Charlotte's Fleming defeated UMass' Lecluyse, 6-3, 6-2. At number five singles, Charlotte's Yana Stoeva was leading UMass' Gimenez, 6-3, 0-5, when the match was stopped. At number six singles, Charlotte's Alexander was leading UMass' Murillo, 6-1, 4-4, when the match was stopped.
