New Orleans, LA - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team lost to tenth seed Marquette, 4-1, at the Conference USA Tournament. The 49ers finished tied for ninth in Conference USA. They finish the season with a 9-14 record.
Marquette won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Ashleigh Murray and Laura Swain defeated Marquette's Genevieve Charron and Veronica Briseno, 8-3. In number two doubles, Marquette's Eva Trujillo-Herrera and Annabelle Espinosa defeated Charlotte's Jennifer Hatch and Lindsay Morris, 8-5. In number three doubles, Marquette's Alexandra Stankovic and Michelle Mojzis defeated Charlotte's Stacie Luders and Marilyn Clark, 8-5.
Marquette won three singles matches to clinch the match. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain defeated Marquette's Mojzis, 6-0, 6-2. In number three singles, Marquette's Espinosa defeated Charlotte's Morris, 6-0, 6-2. In number four singles, Marquette's Briseno defeated Marquette's Clark, 7-5, 6-4. In number five singles, Marquette's Charron defeated Charlotte's Hatch, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
Charlotte's Ashleigh Murray and Megan Bullins did not finish their respective singles matches.
