New Orleans, LA - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team, who are the twelfth seed in the C-USA Tournament, lost their first round tournament match to fifth seed South Florida, 4-2.
Charlotte won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Ashleigh Murray and Laura Swain defeated South Florida's Fabiana Taverna and Luisa Odando, 8-4. In number two doubles, South Florida's Patricia Kolendo and Talia Romero defeated Charlotte's Jennifer Hatch and Lindsay Morris, 8-3. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark and Stacie Luders defeated South Florida's Craig and Larson, 8-5.
South Florida won four singles matches to win the match. In number one singles, South Florida's Taverna defeated Charlotte's Swain, 7-5, 6-3. In number two singles, South Florida's Kolendo defeated Charlotte's Murray, 6-4, 6-3. In number three singles, Charlotte's Morris defeated South Florida's Obando, 6-2, 6-2. In number four singles, South Florida's Romero defeated Charlotte's Clark, 7-6, 6-2. In number six singles, South Florida's Belen Pandre defeated Charlotte's Megan Bullins, 6-1, 6-2. Charlotte's Jennifer Hatch did not finish her match with South Florida's Craig.
The 49ers will face Saint Louis in their next match at the Conference USA Tournament, Sunday, April 13 at 10 am.
