CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team won a very tight match, 4-3, over Winthrop at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex. The 49ers improved to 8-12 overall with their second straight win.

The 49ers won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Ashleigh Murray and Laura Swain lost to Winthrop's Jenny Andrade and Ana Simanca, 8-4. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Jennifer Hatch and Lindsay Morris defeated Winthrop's Paula Takahashi and Danielle Moita, 8-6. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark and Stacie Luders defeated Winthrop's Renata Barreto and Renat Caceres, 8-6.

The two teams split the singles matches. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain defeated Winthrop's Barreto, 6-4, 6-3. In number two singles, Charlotte's Murray defeated Winthrop's Andrade, 6-3, 7-6. In number three singles, Charlotte's Morris defeated Winthrop's Simanca, 6-3, 6-3. In number four singles, Charlotte's Clark lost to Winthrop's Takahashi, 6-2, 7-6. In number five singles, Charlotte's Hatch lost to Winthrop's Caceres, 6-1, 6-3. In number six singles, Charlotte's Megan Bullins lost to Winthrop's Moita, 6-1, 6-4.
