STATESBORO, GA - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis dropped a tight match, 4-3, at Georgia Southern. With the loss, the 49ers fall to 6-12 on the season.

Georgia Southern won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Ashleigh Murray and Laura Swain defeated Georgia Southern's Stephanie Tyrell and Amy Bartlett, 9-7. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Jennifer Hatch and Lindsay Morris lost to Georgia Southern's Marion Leuillier and Callie Ward, 8-4. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark and Stacie Luders lost to Georgia Southern's Karen Somm and Charlotte Bruneteaux, 8-0.

The two teams split the singles matches. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain defeated Georgia Southern's Tyrell, 6-4, 6-2. In number two singles, Charlotte's Morris lost to Georgia Southern's Bruneteaux, 6-1, 6-3. In number three singles, Charlotte's Murray defeated Georgia Southern's Kimberly Wollett, 6-1, 6-0. In number four singles, Charlotte's Clark lost to Georgia Southern's Leuillier, 6-3, 6-2. In number five singles, Charlotte's Hatch won her fourth straight match with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Georgia Southern's Ward. In number six singles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford lost to Georgia Southern's Somm, 6-2, 6-3.

The 49ers return home to face Gardner-Webb in a non-conference matchup Saturday morning beginning at 11:00.
