TAMPA, FL - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team lost to Conference USA rival South Florida, 6-1. This is the first of two matches that the team will be playing on their Florida spring break trip. The 49ers will face Valparaiso, Friday, March 8 in Daytona Beach, Florida.

South Florida won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Alice Hansen and Laura Swain defeated South Floirda's Patricia Kilendo and Natalie Schwartz, 8-5. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Jana Cucciniello and Jennifer Hatch lost to South Florida's Jennifer Sinclair and Claudia Nieto, 8-0. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Lauren Hastings and Stacie Luders lost to South Florida's Ashlee Callahan and Jackie Spicijaric, 8-1.

South Florida won five of the six singles matches. In number one singles, Charlotte's Alice Hansen lost to South Florida's Schwartz, 6-1, 6-2. In number two singles, Charlotte's Laura Swain defeated South Florida's Genevieve Houle, 6-4, 7-6. In number three singles, Charlotte's Jana Cucciniello lost to South Florida's Sinclair, 6-1, 6-2. In number four singles, Charlotte's Jennifer Hatch lost to South Florida's Callahan, 6-0, 6-0. In number five singles, Charlotte's Lauren Hastings lost to South Florida's Kilendo, 6-2, 6-1. In number six singles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford lost to South Florida's Spicijaric, 6-0, 6-0.
