CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team dropped a hard fought match to Conference USA foe South Florida, 4-3. With the loss the 49ers fall to 4-5 on the season.
South Florida won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Ashleigh Murray and Laura Swain lost to South Florida's Fabiana Taverna and Luisa Obando, 8-4. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark and Lindsay Morris lost to South Florida's Patricia Kolendo and Jamie Larson, 8-6. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford and Jennifer Hatch defeated South Florida's Gina Craig and Talia Romero, 8-4.
The two teams split the singles matches. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain lost to South Florida's Taverna, 6-2, 6-2. In number two singles, Charlotte's Morris defeated South Florida's Obando, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. In number three singles, Charlotte's Murray defeated South Florida's Kolendo, 7-5, 6-1. In number four singles, Charlotte's Clark lost to South Florida's Romero, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6. In number five singles, Charlotte's Megan Bullins lost to South Florida's Craig, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. In number six singles, Charlotte's Hatch defeated South Florida's Belen Pandre, 6-1, 6-0.
The 49ers return to action this Friday, March 7 when they host West Virginia at 2:30 pm.
