Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team won their third straight match with a 5-2 victory over Xavier for their first-ever Atlantic 10 win. With the win, Charlotte improved to 3-2 on the season.
The 49ers swept the doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At number one doubles, Charlotte's Ofra Friedman and Ashleigh Murray defeated Xavier's Kristen Clary and Kara Courtney, 8-4. At number two doubles, Charlotte's Koren Fleming and Ali Piacente defeated Xavier's Jackie Vilines and Alicia Papa, 8-3. At number three doubles, Charlotte's Kathy Robey and Yana Stoeva defeated Xavier's Kate Lohner and Annie Diedalis, 8-2.
Charlotte won four of the six singles matches to claim the overall victory. At number one singles, Charlotte's Friedman lost to Xavier's Clary, 6-3, 4-6, 7-3. At number two singles, Charlotte's Robey defeated Xavier's Vilines, 6-2, 6-0. At number three singles, Charlotte's Piacente defeated Xavier's Courtney, 6-0, 6-2. At number four singles, Charlotte's Murray defeated Xavier's Papa, 6-1, 6-1. At number five singles, Charlotte's Stoeva lost to Xavier's Emily Tuchscherer, 6-3, 6-0. At number six singles, Charlotte's Fleming defeated Xavier's Sarah Potts, 2-6, 6-1, 10-4.
The 49ers return to action at Atlantic 10 foe Richmond, Friday, March 3 at 2 pm.
