CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team defeated Conference USA foe East Carolina, 6-1. With the win, the 49ers improved to 4-4 on the season.
Charlotte won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Laura Swain and Ashleigh Murray defeated East Carolina's Raluca Baicu and Lyndall Jordan, 8-2. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark and Lindsay Morris defeated East Carolina's Kirstin Buchanan and Paulina Sierpinski, 8-6. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford and Jennifer Hatch defeated East Carolina's Lauren Perry and Cristina Meilicke, 8-6.
The 49ers won five of the six singles matches to win the match. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain defeated East Carolina's Jordan, 6-0, 7-6. In number two singles, East Carolina's Baicu defeated Charlotte's Morris, 6-4, 6-3. In number three singles, Charlotte's Murray defeated East Carolina's Buchanan, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. In number four singles, Charlotte's Clark defeated East Carolina's Sierpinski, 6-1, 6-0. In number five singles, Charlotte's Megan Bullins defeated East Carolina's Meilicke, 6-0, 6-1. In number six singles, Charlotte's Hatch defeated East Carolina's Perry, 6-0, 6-0.
The 49ers return to action this Sunday, March 2 when they host Conference USA foe South Florida at 10 am.
