CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team defeated instate foe Western Carolina, 5-2 at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex. With the win the 49ers improved to 3-4 on the season.

Western Carolina won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Laura Swain and Ashleigh Murray defeated Western Carolina's Rocio Perez and Erin Johnson, 8-5. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark and Lindsay Morris defeated Western Carolina's Megan Bechtold and Katie Vanewyk, 9-7. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Megan Bullins and Stacie Luders lost to Western Carolina's Kristin Munn and Kristin Cotton, 8-4.

The 49ers won five of the six singles matches. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain defeated Western Carolina's Munn, 6-0, 6-0. In number two singles, Charlotte's Morris defeated Western Carolina's Bechtold, 6-4, 6-2. In number three singles, Charlotte's Murray defeated Western Carolina's Johnson, 6-1, 6-1. In number four singles, Charlotte's Clark defeated Western Carolina's Perez, 6-1, 7-6. In number five singles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford defeated Western Carolina's Cotton, 6-7, 6-0, 10-8. In number six singles, Charlotte's Bullins defeated Western Carolina's Vanewyk, 6-2, 6-4.
