CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team lost a hard fought match, 4-3, to Wofford at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex. With the loss, the 49ers fall to 2-4 on the season.
Charlotte won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Laura Swain and Ashleigh Murray defeated Wofford's Wendy Rohr and Ellen Rogers, 8-5. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark and Lindsay Morris lost to Wofford's Lauren Marie Whisenhunt and Candy Gore, 8-3. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford and Jennifer Hatch defeated Wofford's Meghan Turner and Delaine Hare, 8-2.
Wofford won four of the six singles matches to win the match. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain won her third straight match with a, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, win over Wofford's Rohr. In number two singles, Charlotte's Morris lost to Wofford's Whisenhunt, 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. In number three singles, Charlotte's Murray defeated Wofford's Rogers, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2. In number four singles, Charlotte's Clark lost to Wofford's Tara Hartness, 6-7, 7-6, 6-2. In number five singles, Charlotte's Hatch lost to Wofford's Gore, 6-1, 6-0. In number six singles, Charlotte's Megan Bullins lost to Wofford's Hare, 6-2, 6-3.
The 49ers return to action next Saturday, February 22 at Georgia Southern at 11 am.
