CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team defeated High Point, 5-2, in their home opener at the D.L. Phillips Tennis Complex. With the win the 49ers improved to 2-3 on the season.
Charlotte won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Ashleigh Murray and Laura Swain defeated High Point's Simona Foltyn and Emma Nordin, 8-0. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Marilyn Clark and Lindsay Morris defeated High Point's Annika Meyerson and Patricia D'Arcy, 8-1. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford and Jennifer Hatch lost to High Point's Jen Rabanal and Anna Stridh, 8-4.
The 49ers won four of the six singles matches to claim win the match. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain defeated High Point's Foltyn, 6-1, 6-0. In number two singles, Charlotte's Morris defeated High Point's Meyerson, 6-2, 6-0. In number three singles, Charlotte's Murray defeated High Point's Rabanal, 6-1, 6-4. In number four singles, Charlotte's Clark defeated High Point's Stridh, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5. In number five singles, Charlotte's Hatch lost to High Point's D'Arcy, 6-1, 4-6, 10-5. In number six singles, Charlotte's Megan Bullins lost to High Point's Nordin, 5-7, 6-1, 10-7.
The 49ers conclude their two match home stand when they host Wofford, Thursday, February 13 at 2:30 pm.
