CHARLESTON, SC - The Charlotte 49ers women's tennis team lost at College of Charleston, 5-2. With the loss the 49ers fall to 1-3 on the season.
Charleston won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. In number one doubles, Charlotte's Laura Swain and Ashleigh Murray defeated Charleston's Maike Hartung and Gabriella Moreira, 8-6. In number two doubles, Charlotte's Jennifer Hatch and Lindsay Morris lost to Charleston's Rachel Magory and Lauren Stewart, 8-1. In number three doubles, Charlotte's Courtney Clifford and Marilyn Clark lost to Charleston's Whitney Malina and Emily Scatuorchio, 8-6.
The 49ers won two of the six singles matches. In number one singles, Charlotte's Swain defeated Charleston's Moreira, 6-3, 6-0. In number two singles, Charlotte's Morris lost to Charleston's Magory, 6-2, 6-3. In number three singles, Charlotte's Murray lost to Charleston's Malina, 5-7, 6-3, 10-3. In number four singles, Charlotte's Clark defeated Hartung, 3-6, 6-2, 7-5. In number five singles, Charlotte's Hatch lost to Charleston's Stewart, 6-1, 7-6. In number six singles, Charlotte's Megan Bullins lost to Charleston's Scatuorchio, 6-2, 6-3.
The 49ers return to action this week with back-to-back home matches, February 12-13. They host High Point, Wednesday, February 12 at 2 pm. Then, they host Wofford, Thursday, February 13 at 2:30 pm.
