Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte Softball will host a pair of tournaments to kick off the 2009 regular season campaign and open Atlantic 10 Conference play at home against George Washington on March 20, 2009 as the 49ers begin their quest for their first A-10 tournament title.

Charlotte will remain at home basically through the entire first month of the 2009 season and go on the road only five times in two months in a schedule very remenisent of the 2006 schedule which put the 49ers in a position to set the school record for wins with 42.

The first tournament of the season will bring Army, UNC-Greensboro and UNC-Wilmington to town to open up regular season play from February 13-15.

From February 20-22, the 49ers will bring Saint Francis, Towson and Seton Hall to the Queen City to take part in the First Pitch Classic.

Pinned between the two tournaments is a contest with South Carolina on February 18.

Other games of note during the 2009 campaign include a home doubleheader with Pittsburgh on March 11 and road trips to N.C. State on April 7 and to North Carolina on April 22.

Charlotte will round out the home part of their A-10 schedule against Massachusetts on April 26 as the 49ers look to redeem the Minutemen for the loss their delivered to the Niners in last year’s A-10 tournament championship game at D.L. Phillips Field.

The regular season for the 49ers will finish up at Dayton on May 2, before the Niners travel to Fordham for the A-10 tournament from May 5-9 in search of their first A-10 tournament title.
