Charlotte, N.C. – With the players coming back to campus and fall sports in midseason form, the Charlotte 49er Softball team has begun their Fall ball season as they take part in three weekends of action on the diamond.
The 2008 Fall slate got going last weekend when the Niners hosted their first of two tournaments with the host team taking home the tournament crown with wins over Queens and Saint Andrews Presbyterian.
Charlotte’s first game was a solid 7-0 victory over their cross town foe with Emily Jeffrey going the distance for the win.
At the plate, it was the middle of the lineup with catcher Jaime West and utility player Keri Palma leading the way by driving in two runs a piece.
Game number two saw the 49ers explode at the plate to the tune of 14 runs and a 14-4 victory.
Gina Allen recorded the win while the offense hammered out 20 hits with Whitney Williams, Lorena Vela, Cee Brooks, Natalyn Blanton and West each having three hits to lead the way for the Niners at the plate.
This coming weekend, Charlotte travels to the northern part of the state as they head to Taylorsville to take on Appalachian State.
Following this weekend’s doubleheader, the Niners will start October off with a bang when they host their final tournament of the Fall when Campbell, UNC-Greensboro and North Carolina come to town on October 4th and 5th.
