DeVos Hires Killough; Porche as Softball Assistants

49ers All-Time HR Leader; All-MVC Pitcher Added to Staff

Aug. 1, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers head softball coach Aimee DeVos has announced the hiring of former Charlotte 49ers standout Kristi Killough and Missy Porche as assistant coaches. Killough, a 2007 graduate of UNC Charlotte was head coach of Central Cabarrus High School's powerful softball program in 2008. Porche, who will join the program in October, was a first team all-Missouri Valley Conference pitcher at Missouri State.

"I am very proud to have Kristi and Missy on our staff at Charlotte," DeVos said. "Kristi brings coaching experience, passion for the 49er program and an incredible knowledge of hitting to our offense. Missy's collegiate and international experience is going to energize and challenge our pitching staff. "

Killough graduated from UNC Charlotte in December, 2007. A four-year letterwinner under DeVos, Killough is the 49ers all-time leader in home runs and ranks second in RBI. She cracked 20 home runs in her career and drove in 105 runs to become one of just three 49ers with over 100 career RBI. She ranks fourth all-time with 38 career doubles. A two-time first-team all-Atlantic 10 star, Killough hit a school record 11 home runs and drove home a school-record 47 runs as the 49ers won a share of their first-ever conference title and posted a school-record 42 wins in 2006. She led the team in home runs and RBI again in 2007 in winning her second straight first team all-A-10 award.

A native of Concord, N.C., Killough helped Central Cabarrus High School to state championships in 2000 and 2001 as a player. She completed her high school career at Jay M. Robinson, where she led her team to the South Piedmont Conference title. She was named the 2003 South Piedmont Conference Player of the Year and was named Female Athlete of the Year by the Charlotte Observer.

"Kristi has always been involved with softball -- from her days as a player in high school and college, to starting her coaching career at Central Cabarrus to coaching the Firestix travel team and working at All Star City Pitching and Softball Academy," added DeVos, who will have Killough oversee offense and the outfielders among her varied responsibilities. "Kristi had a tremendous career at Charlotte as a player and we look for her to have a tremendous career, here, as a coach."

Porche, a 2008 Missouri State psychology graduate, was a first team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection as a senior. A native of Buena Park, Calif., Porche posted a 19-16 record with a 2.09 ERA and a school record 288 strikeouts. She received honorable mention on the MVC Scholar-Athlete softball squad. She went 16-19 with a 2.17 ERA and 222 strikeouts as a junior, hurling a no-hitter vs. Central Arkansas in the championship game of the Central Arkansas Leadoff Tournament. She was 17-8 as an all-MVC second team choice as a sophomore and led the NCAA with seven saves. During her sophomore campaign, she tossed a no-hitter and hit a grand slam in a victory over Drake.

Porche will join the 49ers in the fall after completing her international season in Europe.

Killough replaces Melissa Hurley, who resigned as assistant coach to become head coach at Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo. while Porche takes over the pitching coach duties from Jim Daley.
