Dayton, Ohio - The Charlotte 49ers will take on the Dayton Flyers in a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m. in Dayton. Charlotte comes in with a record of 30-21 on the season and 6-7 in the Atlantic 10. Dayton is 11-26 overall and 3-12 in the A-10. A 49er Sweep would guarantee Charlotte a spot in next week's Atlantic 10 Tournament in Amherst, Mass.
Charlotte enters the weekend on a roll, having won four straight, and eight of its last nine. On Tuesday the Niners swept Elon in non-conference action, winning 4-3 in game one and 6-3 in nine innings in game two. Becky Matthews knocked in the game-tying run in the seventh and hit a walk-off three run homer in the ninth, her fourth hit of the game.
Matthews leads Charlotte with a .344 batting average. She also leads the team in hits and doubles, while ranking second in RBI, on base percentage and slugging percentage. Evan Miller is second on the team in batting average, hits and runs scored. Charlotte's all-time home run leader Kristi Killough ranks fourth on the team with a .315 batting average while leading the team with seven homers and 33 RBI.
The Charlotte pitching staff is anchored by seniors Kristen Bowen and Christy Murray. Bowen is 13-11 on the season with a 2.50 ERA and 119 strikeouts. The school's all-time strikeout leader picked up her 60th career win Tuesday night, good for third all-time. Murray is right behind her in fourth place on the wins list, this season she is 14-10 with a 3.59 ERA and a career-high 107 strikeouts.
