UAB scored four runs in the seventh inning to overtake Charlotte 6-4 victory in the final game of the three-game series, Sunday.UAB (27-23, 9-12) jumped out to the early first inning lead when Cliffanie Engram singled up the middle and scored when Beth Mullins doubled to left field, giving the Blazers the 1-0 lead.

Charlotte battled back in the bottom of the first inning when Denise Atmar was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lynne LaPorte. Atmar then stole third base and scored on Mel Thevanote's double to right field, tying the game at 1-1.

The 49ers (14-31, 4-19 C-USA) rallied again in the third inning and scored two runs when LaPorte reached on an error and Autumn Lawson reached on a bunt single. Both LaPorte and Lawson tagged up when Thevenote flied out to right field. Sam Moore then followed with a walk to load the bases for Charlotte. LaPorte scored when Karianne Huffstetler reached on a fielder's choice. Lindsay Flemming followed with an RBI single to shallow left field to bring Lawson home, taking the 3-1 lead over the Blazers.

UAB scored in the top of the fourth inning when Amanda Ellis doubled down the left field line and Amanda Byrne reached on a fielder's choice. Chelsea McCall singled and Ellis scored on the play to cut Charlotte's lead to 3-2.

Charlotte took a 4-2 lead in the sixth inning when Atmar singled and later scored on Lawson's RBI single to center field.

UAB rallied in the top of the seventh to score four runs when Engram drew a walk and both Sara Christophel and Beth Mullins reached on bunt singles to load the bases. Kelli Thompson reached on a fielder's choice and Engram and Christophel scored on the play as Charlotte's shortstop over threw the catcher to tie the game at 4-4. Kris Lara then singled to center field and Mullins and pinch-runner Kerri Foster scored on the play giving the Blazers the 6-4 win.

 

 

This was the final game of the season for Charlotte.
