ST. LOUIS - The Charlotte 49ers softball team wrapped up their three-game series at Saint Louis Sunday, falling to the Billikens, 2-0, at the Billiken Sports Center.
Nicole Bohnenstiehl earned the win for Saint Louis (20-19, 4-12 C-USA), striking out 10 while holding the 49ers to three hits. The Billikens picked up both their runs in the first inning. Erin Jeffery started the bottom of the first with a single to right, Kerri Higgins sacrificed her over to second, and Bohnenstiehl helped herself with a double to right to stake the Billikens to a 1-0 lead. She later made the score 2-0, when she was driven in on a Janet Venorsky double to left. Charlotte (18-24, 2-12 C-USA) got their first hit in the fifth, when Autumn Lawson began the inning with a double to center. The 49ers put a pair of runners in scoring position in the next inning. But, Nora Petrie and Stephanie Dunlap were stranded when Kristin White struck out. Bohnenstiehl earned the win and improved to 9-12. Betsy Thompson took the loss for the 49ers, falling to 9-11.
Charlotte returns home this week, hosting Furman on Wednesday before taking on C-USA foe East Carolina this weekend.
