ST. LOUIS - The Saint Louis Billikens broke scoreless ties in the bottom of the sixth inning of both games to sweep their doubleheader with the 49ers, 1-0, 3-0.
In game one, the 49ers had hits in each of the first five innings but were unable to push a run across. In the fifth inning, the 49ers loaded the bases with one out following singles by Autumn Lawson and Lynne LaPorte and a Hit-By-Pitch to Kristy Constantino, but a pair of groundouts ended the rally.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Billikens put runners at second and third with one out following lead-off singles by Adrienne May and Erin Jeffery and a sacrifice bunt. May scored the game's only run, beating the throw home on Nicole Bohnenstiehl's grounder to second.
In game two, the 49ers were held to just two hits but Amy Morse kept the Billikens in check, as well, allowing just two hits through five innings. In the sixth, with two outs, SLU put runners at first and second and Beth Yagge knocked an RBI-single to left to score one run. Janet Venorsky followed with a double to left to score two more and give the Billikens the 3-0 win.
The three-game Conference USA series concludes Sunday with a single game at noon.
