BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB used extra innings to defeat the Charlotte 49ers softball team 1-0 Sunday afternoon. The game, which went 10 innings, was the final games in the schools' weekend series.

UAB (27-13, 7-5 C-USA) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 10th, Beth Mullins came home on a single to left from Aimee Vaughn and an error by Lynne LaPorte. Megan Stephenson recorded the win for the Blazers and improved to 9-6, striking out 14. Betsy Thompson took the loss for Charlotte (17-20, 2-9 C-USA). She fell to 9-8 on the season. Kristy Constantino led the Niners offensively, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

Charlotte returns to action Tuesday, when they play a doubleheader at Appalachian State.
