Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers senior pitcher Amy Morse took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, but Houston rallied for two in the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh to defeat Charlotte, 3-2, in Confence USA softball action.

The 49ers took a 1-0 lead in the first on a solo home run to centerfield by senior Mel Thevenote and Morse made the lead stand up until the fifth inning.

After Houston put runners on first and second with one out a double steal put them both in scoring position. Lindsay Durham followed with a two-run single to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead. Michelle Whipple added an RBI-single in the seventh to give Houston a 3-1 cushion.

Charlotte loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but after Autumn Lawson scored on a wild pitch, reliever Jenny Johnson struck out the next batter and shortstop Jaci Gonzalez threw out the potential tying run at the plate on Laurie Roycroft's grounder. Johnson struck out the final batter to end the game.
