BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Charlotte 49ers softball team pulled out a 6-5 extra-inning win in game two to split a doubleheader against UAB Saturday afternoon. The Blazers picked up a 3-0 win in the first game.

Charlotte (17-19, 2-8 C-USA) started early in game two, scoring four runs in the second inning. Kristin White led the attack with a three-run home run to left to drive in Nora Petrie and Melanie Thevenote. UAB (26-13, 6-5 C-USA) rallied, however, tying the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh. Ellis, who was in as a pinch runner, tied the game for the Blazers, coming home on a Kerri Foster hit. Leah Heston broke the tie in the eighth, scoring on Kiley Scott's fielder's choice. Then Denise Atmar drove in Scott to add another run and make the score. UAB tried to come back again in the bottom half of the inning, but was held to one run. Shannon Carson pitched in relief of Amy Morse and picked up the win to improve to 2-3. Dana Bowers posted her third save of the season.

It was the Blazers who got on the board early in the first game. Sara Christophel got things started in the first with a single and then scored on a wild pitch. Christophel scored again in the sixth, coming home on a Beth Mullins double to left field. UAB then picked up an insurance run, when Mullins scored on Cliffanie Engram's single to right field. Kelli Thompson earned the win and improved to 8-3. Betsy Thompson took the loss and fell to 9-7.
