TAMPA, Fla. - The Charlotte 49ers softball team was shut out, 12-0, in their series finale at South Florida Sunday afternoon. Kristy Constantino and Lindsay Flemming each came up with a pair of hits for the 49ers' cause.
South Florida (39-10, 9-3 C-USA), ranked 23rd in the country, wasted little time getting on the board, plating 11 in the first inning. Betsy Thompson of Charlotte (12-17, 3-8 C-USA) got roughed up for eight runs in two-thirds of an inning before being relieved by Amy Morse, who allowed the final four. Lewellen delivered the big blow for the Bulls, going 1-for-2 with a grand slam.
The Niners will look to return to the win column on Thursday, when they play a doubleheader at UNC Greensboro. Next weekend, the team hosts a three-game series with Houston at the Phillips Sports Complex.
