GREENVILLE, S.C. - Charlotte pounded out 16 hits to earn a pair of wins over Furman Wednesday afternoon at Pepsi Field. After winning game one, 11-4, the 49ers won the second game, 4-0, to complete the sweep.

In game one, Charlotte (12-11) was ahead 4-0 when they broke the game open in the top of the sixth with a six-run inning. Leah Heston started the 49ers' barrage with a walk, which was followed by hits from Denise Atmar, Autumn Lawson, Vicki Van Dam, and Kristy Constantino. Furman (12-17) tried to mount a rally in the sixth, but the Niners scored again in the top of the seventh and shut out the Paladins in the bottom, to earn the victory. Betsy Thompson picked up the win in game one to improve her record to 5-4. Kelly Jack took the loss.

In game two, Furman and Charlotte were locked in a 0-0 tie until the top of the sixth, when the 49ers scored four runs. Constantino, who had four hits on the afternoon, got the inning started with a single to center field and later scored on an error by Paladins shortstop Kelli Leachman. The Niners added two more off a single to right by Leah Heston. Kiley Scott scored the final Charlotte run on a Lawson ground out. Amy Morse pitched her way to the win and is now 4-5 on the year. Furman's Missy Baldwin fell to 1-4 with the second game decision.

Charlotte returns to action Saturday when they host Conference USA foe Louisville in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00. The games are the 49ers' first conference games at home this year.
