Houston scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to pull out a 4-3 win over the Charlotte 49ers softball team Sunday. With the win, the Cougars won the series by a 2-1 count.
Houston (23-14, 4-5 C-USA) was scoreless until the sixth, when they climbed back into the game with a Ray Ferreris home run that also drove in Leslie Seay. The Cougars tied the game with two outs in the seventh, scoring the run on an error by Kristy Constantino in right. Kim Nesloney then came up with the game-winning hit, driving in Lindsay Durham. Charlotte (15-14, 1-4 C-USA) led 3-0 prior to the rally, scoring all three runs in the first. The 49ers took the lead with Melanie Thevenote's three-run home run that also drove in Constantino and Leah Heston. Jamie Falco earned the win for the Cougars and improved to 10-4. Shannon Carson took the loss for the Niners, falling to 1-2.
Charlotte returns to action Tuesday, when they host DePaul in a doubleheader. The first game is set to begin at 1:30.
