CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Melanie Thevenote cracked a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score and Sam Moore scampered home on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth as Charlotte rallied for a 6-5 victory over Louisville in Conference USA softball, Friday.
The 49ers took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back home runs by Denise Atmar and Moore but Louisville scored two in the third and three in the fourth to move ahead, 5-3.
Louisville scored two in the third on RBI singles from Michelle Vasquez and Lisa Estes. Estes added another RBI single in the fourth.
49ers reliever Dana Bowers held the Cardinals scoreless for the final four innings while the 49ers prepared their late game heroics.
In the seventh, Karianna Huffstetler and Kristy Constantino led off with bunt singles and after a Lynne LaPorte sacrifice moved them to second and third, Thevenote followed with her two run double.
In the eighth, the Cardinals got a one-out triple by Shannon Nord, but Nord was put out at the plate on a suicide squeeze attempt by Estes.
Moore led off the bottom of the eighth with a double, moved to third on a ground-out and one out later, scored on Krystle Herold's wild pitch.
