ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Charlotte 49ers softball team played three games Saturday at the Winthrop Tournament, taking on Illinois, Morgan State and Charleston Southern. A third game was added to the schedule after Friday's games were postponed due to inclement weather.
In the first game, Charlotte (9-7) fell to Illinois, 4-2. Stephanie Dunlap powered the 49ers' lineup, going 2-3 with a double. Kathryn Nevard pitched her way to the win, while Betsy Thompson took the loss and fell to 4-3 on the season.
The Niners bounced back in the second game, however, shutting out Morgan State, 7-0. Charlotte took a 3-0 lead with a pair of runs in the sixth before plating four more in the seventh. Dana Bowers earned the win, scattering six hits, to improve to 2-1.
Charleston Southern ended the long day, earning a 10-2 win.
Charlotte returns to action Sunday, when they play two on the final day of the tournament.
