CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers softball team split a pair of games on day two of the 49ers Invitational. After starting the day with a 4-3 win over Liberty, Charlotte was defeated by Akron, 7-0 in the final game of the day.
In the first game, Charlotte (9-6) trailed 3-2 entering the top of the seventh. Melanie Thevenote tied things up for the Niners though, launching a home run over the centerfield wall. Then in the ninth, the Niners plated Kristy Constantino to give the team the win. Dana Bowers pitched 2.2 innings of no-hit softball to pick up the win. Ali Thompson took the loss for the Flames.
The 49ers didn't fair as well in the second game. Akron got on the board early with four runs in the first and added two in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Zips' Megan MacKenzie held Charlotte to just two hits to earn the win. Betsy Thompson took the loss, going four innings.
Three games will close out the 49ers Invitational tomorrow. Charlotte plays in the first game on Sunday, versus Wright State at 10:00.
