CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers softball team picked up a pair of win Wednesday, sweeping Mount St. Mary's, 8-0 and 10-2, at the Phillips Complex.
Charlotte (6-2) sophopmore Betsy Thompson threw a two-hit shut out in game one. She was assisted by Lynne LaPorte who went three for four with Dunlap, Heston and White each adding two hits for the win. The game ended in the sixth inning due to the eight-run rule.
In game two, Amy Morse gave up only two hits as the Niners hit their way to the win. Leading the hitting was Jennifer Herzig, who went three for three with a double and a triple. Scott and LaPorte each had two hits. The game was stopped early as well, once the 49ers built an eight-run advantage in the fifth. Chloe Mathus was the power for Mount St. Mary's (0-2) with a double in the third to drive in a run.
The Niners will remain at home this weekend, hosting Virginia, Ohio, Mount St. Mary's and Appalachian State in the inaugural 49ers Invitational.
