GREENSBORO, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers pitcher Betsy Thompson threw a perfect game to lead Charlotte to a 25-0 win over N.C. A&T in the first game of their doubleheader Friday. The 49ers also won game two, 13-1, to post the sweep.
Betsy Thompson's perfect game was the fourth in school history and the first since 1998. She also threw a no hitter as a freshman in 2000. She faced 15 batters, striking out nine over five innings. Leah Heston powered Charlotte (7-6), going 2-for-4 with three runs and five RBI.
In the second game, Lynne LaPorte, Kiley Scott and Stephanie Dunlap scored three runs each to secure the win. Heston, Autumn Lawson and Melanie Thevenote each posted three RBI, combing to go 6-for-8 at the plate. Amy Morse earned the win, allowing one hit and striking out five in four innings. Shannon Carson came in in the fifth to pick up the save.
Charlotte returns to action on Tuesday, when they play a doubleheader at Liberty.
