Malene Named 2008 Softball Team MVP
5/21/2008 - After starting at second base in all 66 contests this season, junior Sarah Malene was named the 2008 Most Valuable Player, head coach Aimee DeVos announced Wednesday. With her 46 runs on the season, the All A-10 first team and All A-10 Academic team selection shattered her 2006 record of 42 runs in the single season record books, pushing her career total to 113, good for second place all-time. Charlotte Falls in Championship Game After Advancing on 2-1 Win Over Fordham
5/10/2008 - Winning their fourth consecutive title and NCAA Tournament automatic bid, the top-seeded Massachusetts Minutewomen (39-11) shutout the Charlotte 49ers (35-30) 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the final day of action at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship at Charlotte's Phillips Softball Complex. Charlotte, the third seed, advanced to the championship game after rallying past fourth-seeded Fordham (36-30) 2-1 in the rescheduled ninth game of the tournament. Read Full Release
Charlotte Falls to No. 20 Massachusetts in Ten Innings
5/9/2008 - Despite a trading two runs in the eighth inning, the third-seeded Charlotte 49ers (34-30) fell to top seed No. 20 Massachusetts (38-11) 5-4 in nine innings Friday afternoon in day three of Atlantic 10 Tournament action at the D.L. Phillips Softball Complex. Charlotte stayed in the running with the Minutewomen through the bottom of the ninth when Massachusetts scored on an RBI single to centerfield. Read Full Release
