Ozimek, Labuda and Ormsby Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans

This marked the first time in school history that three student-athletes from the same team earned Academic All-American honors in the same season

Charlotte, NC - A school-record three Charlotte 49ers women's soccer players were named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Junior midfielder Lindsey Beam Ozimek (Charlotte, NC/Riverside) earned first-team Academic All-America honors. Junior forward Nikki Labuda (Climax, NY/Greenville HS) earned second-team Academic All-America honors. While senior defender Kelsie Ormsby (Raleigh, NC/Garner HS) earned third-team Academic All-America honors. All three student-athletes were first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III selections as well as Atlantic 10 All-Academic selections.

This is the first time in Charlotte 49ers athletic department history that three players from the same team have earned Academic All-America honors in the same season.

Ozimek, Labuda and Ormsby all played integral roles in helping the 49ers win 13 games and capture the Atlantic 10 regular season championship with a school-record tying eight league wins this season.

Ozimek, who has a 4.00 GPA in Special Education, is the first player in the program's history to be named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American twice. Last season, she earned third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors. She joins former men's tennis player Chris Mark (1992-93), former men's soccer player Jim Kunevicius (1997-98) and current track and field athlete Sharonda Johnson (2005-06) as the only two-time Academic All-Americans in school history.

This season, Ozimek was named first-team All-Atlantic 10 for the second straight season. She also was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team for the second straight season. She scored four goals and tallied six assists for 14 points. Her six assists this season have given her 30 for her career which moves her into a tie for the most career assists in the program's history. She now has 58 career points which is the seventh most in school history.

Labuda, who earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors, has a 4.00 GPA in Mathematics and Economics. She leads the team and ranked among the league leaders with nine goals this season. She has scored nine goals in each of the last two seasons giving her 18 career goals which is tied for the seventh highest total in school history. This season, she has also tallied a career-high five assists giving her a career-high 23 points.

Ormsby, who earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors, has a 3.92 GPA in Biology. She finished the season tied for second on the team with a career-high six goals. The senior captain also anchored a 49ers defense which recorded five shutouts and limited ten foes to a goal or less this season.

These awards are the 19th, 20th and the 21st in the school's history.
