Charlotte Battles Fordham For A-10 Women's Soccer Tournament Title

The 49ers are playing in the fourth conference tournament championship game in the program's history

Nov. 10, 2007

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers (15-4-1), who won the Atlantic 10 regular-season title, will play Fordham (10-4-5) for the A-10 Women's Soccer Conference Tournament Championship and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament at Charlotte's Transamerica Field, Sunday, November 11 at 1 pm.

"The A-10 Championship game will be a fantastic game between two very good teams," said Charlotte coach Jon Lipsitz, who was named A-10 Coach of the Year earlier this week. "The game will come down to a few special moments between two evenly matched teams. We are excited about playing Fordham on our field for the A-10 Tournament Championship on 11/11."

The 49ers reached the championship game after defeating Richmond 1-0 on a goal by A-10 Midfielder of the Year Lindsey Ozimek in the A-10 Tournament semifinals, Friday. Fordham tied Dayton, 1-1, in double overtime in the other semifinal game but Fordham would advance to the championship game on penalty kicks, 4-3.

This game will mark the second meeting this season at Transamerica Field between the two teams. Charlotte and Fordham played a 1-1 double overtime tie in their first meeting this season on September 30.

Charlotte enters the A-10 Championship game having won nine of their last ten games. During that stretch, the 49ers defense led by second-team All-Atlantic 10 goalkeeper Lauren Brown have recorded five shutouts.

Charlotte attempts to win the third conference tournament title in the program's history this Sunday. The 49ers defeated Evansville, 1-0, to win the 1995 Conference USA Title. Then, Charlotte captured the 1998 Conference USA Title on penalty kicks against Marquette.

Admission to championship game is $6 for Adults, $4 for Youth (18 and under) and senior citizens and $3 for students of any A-10 institution with a valid ID.
