Nikki Dumencich named A-10 Rookie of the Year |

Charlotte, NC - Five Charlotte 49ers women's soccer players earned All-Atlantic 10 honors. Freshman Nikki Dumencich (Greensboro, NC/Western Guilford HS) was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year. Sophomore midfielder Lindsey Beam (Charlotte, NC/Riverside HS) was named first-team All-Atlantic 10. Dumencich, junior defender Kelsie Ormsby (Raleigh, NC/Garner HS) and senior defender Lindsey Palmiero (McLean, VA/Yorktown HS) earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors. While, sophomore midfielder Nicole Labuda (Climax, NY/Greenville HS) earned honorable mention All-Atlantic 10 honors. Beam, Labuda and Ormsby were also named to the Atlantic 10 academic all-conference team.
Dumencich becomes the fourth different 49er to garner conference freshman of the year honors. Last season, Beam was named C-USA Freshman of the Year. Dumencich anchored the Charlotte front line by leading the team in goals with nine, including game-winners against Marshall and Richmond. She finished the regular season tied for fourth in A-10 in goals. Her nine goals are the third highest freshman total in the program's history. She tallied a pair of assists to go with those nine goals for 20 points. Her 20 points have tied her for the fifth highest freshman total in school history.
Beam, who earned second-team All-Conference USA honors last season as well as freshman of the year, led the Atlantic 10 and ranked second in the nation with a school single-season 18 assists this season. She tied her career-high with five goals as well. She finished the regular season second in the Atlantic 10 with a team-leading 28 points. She is the tenth different 49er to garner first-team all-conference honors in the program's history. Beam also earned A-10 Player of the Week and Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week honors twice. She was named MVP of the Carolina's Cup at Clemson University earlier this season.
Beam has a 4.00 GPA in pre-special education.
Ormsby is currently fourth on the team with a career-high four goals and 11 points. She scored two goals including the game-winner in the 49ers 4-1 win over A-10 foe St. Bonaventure earlier this season. She moved from the midfield to defender this season and helped anchor a 49ers defense which recorded three shutouts and limited eight foes to a goal or less.
Ormsby has a 3.89 GPA in biology.
Palmiero, a team tri-captain, moved to defender this season after playing forward for her first three collegiate seasons. She scored a goal against Fordham and assisted on the 49ers' final goal on senior day against Rhode Island. However, she has been the rock and leader of the 49ers defense this season.
Labuda scored her first career goal in the 49ers second game of the season against Mercer. She then proceeded to score seven more to finish the regular season second on the team with eight goals. She recorded two multiple goal games. She was named to the all-tournament team at the Carolina's Cup earlier this season after scoring the game-winning goal in the 49ers' victory over South Carolina.
Labuda has a 4.00 GPA in mathematics.
Beam, Dumencich, Labuda, Ormsby, Palmiero and the rest of the 49ers women's soccer team begin play in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, Thursday, November 3 when they battle sixth-seed Duquesne at 5:30 pm.
