First Place 49ers Host A-10 Foes Massachusetts and Rhode Island This Weekend

The 49ers enter the weekend with an 11-game unbeaten streak which is one of the longest streaks in the country

Oct. 25, 2007

Charlotte, NC - The Atlantic 10 leading Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team (12-3-1, A-10: 7-0-1) hosts Atlantic 10 foes Massachusetts and Rhode Island at Transamerica Field in their final regular season home games this weekend, October 26-28. First, the 49ers battle Massachusetts, Friday, October 26 at 7 pm. Then, Charlotte concludes the weekend against Rhode Island on Senior Day, Sunday, October 28 at 1 pm.

On Sunday before the Rhode Island game, the 49ers will honor seniors Brittany Dorsch, Sara Jane Harris, Rachel Mees, Lindsey Ozimek and Ashley Rex who will be playing the final regular season home game of their careers. Those five seniors have played an integral role in helping the 49ers win 41 games and capture the 2006 Atlantic 10 title and potentially the 2007 A-10 title.

Charlotte enters the weekend having posted a 10-0-1 record in their last 11 games including six straight wins to move into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic 10. If the 49ers post victories in both games this weekend they will clinch their second straight Atlantic 10 regular season championship.

Ozimek leads the Atlantic 10 in assists with 11. She also leads the 49ers in points with 19 and is third on the team in goals with four. Freshman Whitney Weinraub leads the 49ers in goals with six, while fellow freshman Sam Huecker is second on the team in goals with five and points with 16. Charlotte has nine players with at least two goals including reigning A-10 Player of the Week junior Nikki Dumencich who has three goals on the season.

Defense has also been a big story this season as the 49ers defense led by sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Brown have only allowed 10 goals all season with only four of those coming in 745 minutes of Atlantic 10 play. The 49ers defense have posted eight shutouts this season and have limited 14 of their opponents to a goal or less.

Admission for each game is $5 for adults. While admission for all youth (17-and-under) is free for Friday's Massachusetts game and $2 for Sunday's Rhode Island game. While Charlotte 49ers students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
