Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team (8-3-1, A-10: 3-0-1) looks to remain undefeated in the Atlantic 10 as they host league foes George Washington and Richmond at Transamerica Field this weekend, October 12-14. First, the 49ers battle George Washington, Friday, October 12 at 7 pm. Then, Charlotte concludes the weekend against Richmond, Sunday, October 14 at 1 pm.
Charlotte enters the George Washington game having outscored their A-10 opposition 11-1 in their first four games. The 49ers defense led by sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Brown has been outstanding having only allowed one goal in 380 minutes of Atlantic 10 play.
Senior midfielder Lindsey Ozimek leads the Atlantic 10 in assists with eight and points. She is second on the team in goals with four. Freshman forward Whitney Weinraub leads the 49ers and is tied for fifth in the A-10 with six goals.
After two weeks of Atlantic 10 play, the 49ers are currently tied with Saint Louis for second place a half game behind Dayton in the standings.
The 49ers won the only previous meeting against George Washington, 3-2, in double overtime, October 8, 2006. Charlotte has won the other two meetings with Richmond including a 2-1 overtime victory last season.
Admission for each game is $5 for adults and youth (17-and-under) are $2. While Charlotte 49ers students are admitted free with a valid student ID.
