Oni Bernard Named A-10 Rookie of the Week For the Second Time

Oni Bernard scored a goal and assisted on another one in the 49ers 3-0 win over A-10 foe Saint Louis

Oct. 6, 2008

Charlotte, NC - Charlotte 49ers women's soccer's freshman forward Oni Bernard was named A-10 Rookie of the Week for the second time this season for her performance in the 49ers' 3-0 win over Saint Louis, Saturday. She earned her first A-10 Player of the Week award for her two goal performance against Francis Marion, September 21. The 49ers women's soccer program has had a player named A-10 Rookie of the Week in each of the last three weeks after fellow freshman forward Jonna Handra earned her second A-10 Rookie of the Week award of the season last week.

Bernard assisted on the 49ers second goal in the Saint Louis game. Then, she closed out the 49ers scoring with her fifth goal of the season in the Saint Louis game.

Bernard's five goals ties her for second on the team and sixth in the A-10. She is tied for fourth in the A-10 with 15 points.

Bernard and the rest of the 49ers women's soccer team puts their perfect 3-0 Atlantic 10 record on the line this weekend when they battle Temple and Saint Joseph's at Transamerica Field, October 10-12. The 49ers begin the weekend against Temple, Friday, October 10 at 7 pm. Then, Charlotte concludes the weekend against Saint Joseph's, Sunday, October 12 at 1 pm.
