Charlotte, NC - Senior forward Nikki Labuda Czaplicki of the Charlotte 49ers Women's Soccer team was named a 2008 candidate for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Czaplicki makes it two straight years that the 49ers women's soccer program has had a top candidate for the Lowe's Senior Class award. Last season, Lindsey Ozimek reached the top five finalist and earned first-team Lowe's Senior Class All-American honors.
Czaplicki, who earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors in 2006, graduated with a 3.96 GPA with a degree in Mathematics and Economics this past May. She is currently in graduate school working on a degree in Mathematical Finance. She was named second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in 2006. She led the team and ranked among the league leaders with nine goals in 2006. In 2005, she was earned honorable-mention All-Atlantic 10 honors after scoring nine goals.
This season, she has returned to the 49ers lineup after missing all but four games in 2007 due to a knee injury. In 2008, she has scored two goals in six games. For her career, she has scored 22 goals which is the seventh most in the program's history. She has tallied 51 career points which is the eighth highest total in the program's history.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the CLASS award, created in 2001, was designed to honor the attributes of seniors who remain committed to their university and elect to pursue the many rewards that a senior season can bring. Thirty male and 30 female players have been selected as candidates for the 2008 soccer awards, based on personal qualities that define a complete athlete, according to Lowe's. While the on-the-field performance during their collegiate soccer careers is a factor in determining candidates and the eventual winner, their personal character and off-the-field achievements in the classroom and community are major areas of focus.
