CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers Athletic Department will play host to the 2002 Conference USA Women's Soccer Tournament and the 2003 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Both events will take place at the Irwin Belk Center, on-campus.

The C-USA Women's Soccer Tournament will be held Nov. 6-9 at Transamerica Field of the Belk Center. The venue has hosted several NCAA Men's and Women's Soccer Tournament games, the 1996 C-USA Women's Soccer Championships and selected Charlotte Eagles and Charlotte Lady Eagles A-League and W-2 professional soccer contests.

The 49ers, who were 7-2-1 in Conference USA, last year, have reached the C-USA semifinals in each of the league's seven years. The 49ers captured titles in 1995 and 1998.

The C-USA Track and Field Championships will be held at the Belk Track and Field Center, May 15-17. The Belk Center hosted the German Olympic Track and Field Team for pre-Olympic training, prior to the 1996 Atlanta Games. The facility also served as the AAU Junior Olympic Track and Field venue in 1997 and has hosted two classes of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Track and Field Championships for each of the past four years.

The 49ers men's track and field team, which captured the 2001 Conference USA Indoor title, was runner-up in the 2002 indoor championships and placed fourth at the 2002 outdoor championships.
