Charlotte, NC - Charlotte 49ers women's soccer assistant coach Maureen McDonough has resigned to accept the assistant coaching position at the University of Miami. McDonough has spent the past five seasons as a member of the Charlotte women's soccer coaching staff.
"Maureen has been an extremely loyal and trustworthy coach and friend to me for the last 7 years," Charlotte head coach Neil Roberts said. "I am proud of the progress she has made in her professional career. Our program is very sad about losing her but that sadness is totally overshadowed by how happy we are for her in her move to the University of Miami. I know this is what Maureen wants and I wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. I am extremely confident she will be successful."
McDonough had been an assistant coach for Roberts for six seasons. McDonough came to Charlotte from East Carolina where she spent two seasons as an assistant coach including one season with Roberts.
During McDonough's time at Charlotte the 49ers have enjoyed several successes like the program's first ever national ranking, a Conference USA regular season title, an NCAA Tournament appearance and an undefeated 2002 regular season.
A search will begin immediately to find her replacement.
